Joaquin Buckley faced Colby Covington for the welterweight bout. The fight came to a stoppage when Covington faced a brutal cut above his eye. The cage side doctor called a stoppage for the fight. The cut was deep and was wide open and left Covington bleeding. Non stoppage to the fight would have bought a terrible injury for the fighter.
Buckley dominated the fight one sided. Covingtone seemed slow, never have seen Coving in such slow pace. Buckley focused on his brutal strikes and of the strike left Covington with cut above his eye. Buckley was tough, his strikes were very hard and dominating, Covington actually could handle the domination by Buckley.
Buckley now has a 6-streak win in a row. Buckley would definitely move up to No.6 from No.9 after the fight. Meanwhile Covington would move down from No. 6. Covington lost his last fight against Leon Edwards at UFC 296 on Dec 23. Edwards won the fight by unanimous decision. Covington current record is 17-5-0.
Buckley record is 21-6-0. Buckley won 2 fights in 2023, one by TKO against Fialho and one by unanimous decision against Morono. Buckley has emerged as a potential fighter for the title bout. Buckley also won against Thompson at UFC 307, he won by TKO. Till now the journey has been a spectacular one for the fighter. He has become a potential one for the title bout in the eyes of Dana White.
Belal Muhammad is dominating the division as of now, followed by Edwards and Rakhmonov. Time would decide who would Belal face for the title bout.
